Canoa is a village which survives on fishing and tourism – more and more the latter. In recent years it has started to become known as the (even more) chilled Montañita. The only thing that is big about Canoa is the beach – finer than the one at Montañita. It’s pretty clean and if you can be bothered to walk all the way to the sea there are excellent surfing and windsurfing opportunities. You can also do paragliding. The nightlife is limited to about 5 restaurants and 2 main bar/ discos opposite each other which are filled with a mix of Ecuadorians and gringos in holiday periods so that the throng bulges into the street and it becomes one big party with two big soundsystems.
